About Us

Diabetes Research Institute

Born out of commitment, nurtured with love and driven by hope, the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation was created in 1971 by a group of parents of children with diabetes who wanted to put an end to this disease.  Today, the DRI Foundation has grown into an international coalition of caring parents, business leaders, concerned individuals, resarch scientists and clinicians who have established many significant collaborations to further the DRI’s research.

With a mission to provide the DRI with the funding necessary to cure diabetes now, the DRI Foundation has been and continues to be the organization of choice for those who are serious, passionate and committed to curing this disease.

The Diabetes Research Institute, a center of excellence at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, is a recognized world leader in cure-focused research.  Since its inception in the early 1970′s, the DRI has made significant contributions to the field of deabetes research, pioneering many of the techniques used in islet transplantation.  The DRI is now building upon these achievements by bridging cell-based therapies with emerging technologies to restore insulin production.

For the millions of families already affected by diabetes, the Diabetes Research Institute is the best hope for a cure.
